Did you know that every year, NTSU sends a party of students to the National Union of Students (NUS) National Conference as delegates?
What is NUS?
The National Union of Students (NUS) is the official representative body for students across the UK. They campaign on student issues and try to influence national Government policy relating to students. Their goal is to improve higher education for all students.
They hold a national conference each year so students can decide how NUS should support them and what they should prioritise for the coming year.
NTSU sends one of the largest student delegations in the country. This means our members are well represented on national student issues such as the cost of university or accommodation standards. Our term one elections give you a chance to be one of our delegates at this year's conference.
What is an NUS delegate?
NUS delegates are students elected to represent Nottingham Trent Students' Union nationally.
Their goal is to decide how NUS will support students, influence government decisions, and encourage student-friendly national policies.
They attend NUS's annual National Conference, where reps from SUs around the UK come together to discuss students' priorities and vote on big issues in education.
They also work with NTSU and other students to improve students' lives across the UK and generate new ideas to implement at Nottingham Trent.
Why should I become an NUS delegate?
Becoming a delegate lets you have your say on national policies that affect students and gain personal development experience that will look great on your CV.
Your voice will impact the direction of universities and student representation in the UK, giving you a unique opportunity to influence national politics and governmental policy.
If you're interested in moving into a leadership or political role after university, being a delegate will give you valuable experience. And if you're interested in improving higher education for yourself and all students, it's an incredible chance to make a difference at scale.
Sounds good. How do I become one?
You can nominate yourself to become an NUS Delegate here on our website between midday Friday 15th September and midday Friday 6th October.
Delegates will need to be available to attend the NUS National Conference on Weds 17th – Thurs 18th April. (The conference is in Blackpool. NTSU will arrange and pay for your travel, accommodation, and food expenses.)
