Course Reps ► Course & School Reps

Studying at Nottingham Trent doesn’t just mean you are a recipient of education – you also gain the opportunity to be a shaper of your own learning.

For every subject taught at NTU, there are places reserved for students to become Course Reps, who play a vital role within the University by representing their coursemates’ views at decision-making meetings.

School Reps are just like Course Reps, but represent everyone in the School instead of just on their course. A lot of major decisions are taken at School level, and having student views represented in each of the nine schools is vital.

NTSU supports a network of over 350 Course Representatives, in addition to 36 School Reps.

What do Course/School Reps do?

  • Represent the views of students on their course to academics and administrators
  • Serve as members of decision-making committees
  • Suggest changes to their learning
  • Are fully supported by the Students' Union

Why be a Course/School Rep?

  • Improve your own learning and university experience
  • Build confidence in your abilities to negotiate, speak in meetings, and gather feedback - skills that are highly desirable for potential employers
  • Specialised support from Stride (NTSU's training and development programme)
  • Course Rep Conference – a chance to speak to and influence the university’s decision makers
  • Chance to be nominated and attend NTSU Annual Awards Evening

Becoming a Course/School Rep

In your first two weeks you should be asked by your lecturers if anyone wants to take on the role. If you put your hand up and volunteer, chances are your classmates will be very happy to have someone keen on representing them fulfilling the role.
