This Big Idea was PASSED by the Student Council. Please note that the Vice President: Community and Wellbeing, Olivia Brooks and Vice President: Education, Jess Walker of NTSU, will be the Executive Officer to follow-up on this Big Idea.
Knife crime is at record levels both locally and nationally. Whilst there hasn't been any recorded knife crime on NTU campuses, the possibility still exists where tensions between various groups with differing political, religious, or socio-economic beliefs exist. There were also last years multiple murders throughout the city, when two UoN students and a member of the public tragically lost their lives.
The introduction of knife-crime awareness workshops could be used to inform students of the dangers of knife carrying and the consequences of this. But also how to respond if someone they are with is the victim of a knife attack.
Equipping all NTU, NTSU, and accommodation student spaces with 'bleed kits' would give reassurance to students and, whilst it's hoped they'd never be needed, could prove vital in preventing a fatality if the worst did happen.
Great idea, should be mandatory especially the first aid sessions.
