Good afternoon,
I would like to request for free personal laptop repairs and extended laptop loans for 30 days at NTU. NTU only allows students to borrow laptops for up to 24hrs, sometimes with exceptions but not a guarantee and doesn't repair personal laptops. However, UON students can borrow laptops for up to 30 days, which can be extended in special circumstances and they repair personal laptops for free.
This issue was discussed at the student council in 2021, but the idea was denied. Students have been told to go to repair shops, but not all repair shops give student discounts.
As many students rely heavily on their personal laptops for academic work, sudden technical issues or breakdowns can severely hinder their ability to keep up with coursework and assignments. However, not all students can afford immediate repairs or replacements, leading to unnecessary stress and disruptions in their studies. By providing free personal laptop repairs, the university can help alleviate this burden and ensure that students remain productive and focused.
Additionally, the current duration of laptop loans might not be sufficient for students facing longer-term issues with their devices. Extending the length of laptop loans would give students the flexibility to continue their academic work without interruption while their devices are being repaired or replaced.
This initiative would not only support students from low-income backgrounds but also enhance overall student well-being and success. Ensuring access to functioning technology will help create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Therefore, I hope this idea can be discussed and hopefully introduced as soon as possible. I believe implementing these services would strengthen the university’s commitment to supporting student success and mental health. Thank you for considering this proposal. I look forward to your feedback and am happy to discuss this further.
Thanks, Chelsea Agbinor, Undergrad BSc Psychology
