Tuesday 3rd June saw the 2014 Outstanding Teaching Awards culminate with an awards ceremony held in the new city Students’ Union building, bringing the year to a close with a celebration of academic success .
The Outstanding Teaching Awards provide an opportunity to recognise all the excellent teaching and support staff at Nottingham Trent University.
For the last few weeks, students have been voting for the tutors, lecturers and support staff whom they feel have made the most positive impact on their learning this academic year. Nominations were made in two categories for each School: Outstanding Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Support Team of the Year, as well as an overall Department of the Year.
Students, along with staff from NTU and Nottingham Trent Students' Union were in attendance at the ceremony to show recognition for the hard work and dedication of NTU’s teaching staff during this academic year.
Alongside the individual category winners on the night there were also special presentations for Vice chancellor Professor Neil Gorman and Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Chris Pole, both of whom are leaving NTU after 10 years and 7 years of successful stewardship respectively.
Professor Gorman steps down in August to be replaced by Professor Edward Peck, and Professor Pole also steps down in August, to be replaced by Professor Eunice Simmons, currently Dean of the School of Animal Rural and Environmental Sciences. We thank Professors Gorman and Pole for their hard work and many successes over the last few years and look forward to working with the new appointees.
As a way of honouring their dedication and support, Professors Gorman and Pole were presented with lifetime memberships to the Students’ Union by NTSU President Jo Southwell-Sander.
