What is the Student Advice Centre (SAC)?

The Student Advice Centre provides an independent, free and confidential advice, information and representation service to all students at The Nottingham Trent University. Our staff members are employed by the Student Union. We can offer impartial advice without the risk of a conflict of interest if you contact us about problems you might face with any aspect of your time at Nottingham Trent University.

We have offices at the City, Clifton and Brackenhurst sites, and we are available during our opening hours on a drop-in basis. We operate a pre-booked appointments system on Wednesdays at Brackenhurst campus. Please see our contact details at the bottom of this page for information on where to find us and how to contact us.

We are members of Advice UK.

What sort of advice do we give?

We subscribe to the Citizens Advice electronic information system and can advise on a wide variety of subjects. Our most common enquiries relate to money and debt advice and housing advice. As a result of our independent status we are ideally placed to advise and represent students in relation to academic advice e.g. academic misconduct, academic appeals procedures, complaints against the University and disciplinary proceedings.

Although we are independent, SAC staff have good links with other University departments and services and outside organisations to ensure you get the best all round help and advice. If we can’t help you, we can usually refer you to someone who can.

New Academic Appeals Policy & Process

As of 1st January 2011, NTU's Academic Appeals Policy and Academic Appeals Process has changed. We are urging all students to familiarise themselves with the new system as soon as possible by reading through the Notification of Exceptional Circumstances, Request for Reconsideration, and Appeal pages on this website. Please keep in mind that the individual circumstances of your situation may affect which stage of the process is appropriate for you, so please seek advice from us in the first instance.
