NTSU is here to make your time at Nottingham Trent as enjoyable as possible. If you think something needs to be changed or is missing from your Union, University or the local community you live in, all you have to do is tell us and we’ll try and fix it. It's all part of our new initiative called ‘You Said, We Did’. To tell us what you want changed, submit a Big Idea or speak in person to an Executive Officer.
Here are just three examples of what NTU students wanted, and what we did to get them in place:
“We want better IT provisions across all UPP Halls and Brackenhurst Campus”
At the start of the year, the Executive Officers noticed on social media sites that UPP Halls were suffering from slow internet speeds. NTSU then spent a week visiting the halls affected and collected feedback from students. The students that spoke to us said they wanted better internet provision in UPP Halls.
These comments were then compiled and presented to the university Information Services (IS) department. This initial meeting has led to start of a promising working relationship between NTSU and NTU's IS Department, as well as to UPP and NTU confirming that the halls maximum broadband bandwidth is planned to be increased from 1Mb/2Mb to 5Mb/10Mb dependent on configuration work by BT.
Further improvements that have already taken place include a wireless programme on university campuses. This work can currently be seen at Brackenhurst Campus where students can now use the wireless in and around their halls of residence.
“We want a path between Blackwell's Bookshop and CIB in Clifton”
Clifton students regularly walk across the grass between Blackwell's bookshop and the CIB building. In bad weather conditions the grass often became extremely muddy and waterlogged, making the route unwalkable.
Last year, a student gave a presentation at a UGM regarding the provision of this path being built. Following this presentation, a path has now been put in place, allowing students to take the shortcut come rain or shine!
“We want offers on food at Spanky Van Dykes”
Spanky Van Dykes is now the official daytime bar of NTSU. However many students complained to the Union that Spanky's did not offer any deals on food.
Following this, NTSU held a meeting with Spanky's in order to discuss student concerns. The meeting was extremely productive, and a new menu has now been introduced and is available to those who show their NTU Student Card at the bar when ordering.
NTSU also manages 400 Course Reps and 24 School Reps. Course Reps and School Reps are students at NTU who strive to ensure that their education at NTU is the best it can be. They do this by listening to their fellow students' concerns before voicing them at Course Rep and School Rep forum meetings with the Union. The Union then lobbies the relevant parties in order to get these changes in place.
So far the hard work of Course Reps and School Reps has led to:
