► What Does NTSU Do For The Environment?

At Nottingham Trent Students' Union we are committed to lowering the negative impact that we have on the environment locally, nationally and internationally. That is why we have again signed up to the NUS Green Impact scheme (formally the Sound Impact Award).

Green Impact Students' Unions is an assessment of how environmentally friendly and ethical Students' Unions are in the way they operate. It assesses all aspects of our organisation from how well we maintain our vehicles to whether we collect and re-use rainwater!

Nottingham Trent Students' Union currently has the Gold level Green Impact Award (the highest level award possible). This is a fantastic achievement for the Union and one that we are very proud of. It is evidence of our continued commitment to the environment and ethical working practices and sets a high benchmark for us going forward.

Did you know that:

- You can recycle your old mobile phones in the reception of the Students Union at all three campuses.

- We have limited our minibuses to 62mph to restrict their carbon emissions. We use recycled water in our washdown area.

- We recycle tonnes of glass each year. At least 95% of waste glass at the City venue is recycled. We also recycle paper, plastic, tins, batteries, toner & cooking oil.

- We have been awarded Fairtrade Status as an organisation.

- We recycle all our food waste from our diners.

- We sell the ethical brand 'One Water' on all our campuses and have water fountains fitted in staff areas.

- The plastic bags used in all of our campus shops are made from 100% compostable corn starch.

- We only serve Fairtrade tea and coffee in our bars and diners, as well as our staff meeting rooms.

- Our diners only use free range eggs in their breakfasts.

- All venue toilets have dual flush capability, electric hand-dryers and motion sensor lighting & taps to minimise water and energy usage.

- We use recycled water to wash down our fleet vehicles.

- The Students' Union has played an important part in NTU being accredited Gold standard in the Eco Campus Awards.

- Offices all use recycling bins as well as having plants to improve staff wellbeing.
